Sanskrit Karpasa means cotton and Sanskrit put=cloth--> patal= cover

Marathi: Kapad, Hindi: kapada means cloth. Hindi/Punjabi/Marathi:
kudata and urdu(?) khameez mean a shirt.

Marathi, Hindi: phadka also means a cloth or a rag.

Interestingly the Asian languages have both *ker and *pen type of
words. To me this suggests their great anitiquity over all other
languages of the IE family.
