Non-palatalization of velars (from Olsen):
t`ak`eay < *pt&2k-eh1-sk^o- "I hide, am concealed"
k`erem "scratch"
mak`i "sheep, ewe"
suffixes -ak`i (*-ah2kios), -ek`in (*-ikino), -ek`ean
(*-ikih3no-)
The classical examples of palatalization of labiovelars are
*kWetwores > c^`ork` "4" and *gWhermos > j^erm "warm".
Exceptions: hing < *penkWe "five", hangist < *sm.-kWih1sti-
"quiet", both in clusters with -n-.
*g and *gW never palatalize. Examples with *gW: keray "ate"
< *gWerh3-, kin "woman" < *gWen-.
Olsen suggests that *gh does palatalize like *gWh, based on
el~j^ewr "horn" < *(e)rghé:wr < *ghré:wr.. But then it
doesn't in *gher(h)n.tiyo- > gerandi "sickle", so that's
unclear.
