Hello!
My name is Lars Lundberg and I am a Swede.
I've recently discovered this forum with its
interesting topics and qualified discussions.
However I must go through all discussions since
1999 and I am at present in July 2001.
I have learnt a lot of things which have given me
a much richer life.
I have also come across some topics where I think
I wíth my background might have contributed.
Just in June 2001 bilabialism (W) in Swedish was discussed.
The discussion was not conclusive and changed into a
discussion about uvular and retroflex R in American and
Dutch.
However, to give some elucidation on W in Swedish dialects:
there are two areas of my knowledge where it is still alive:
the northern part of Halland belonging to the Kattegatt-Skagerack
dialects (Danish, Swedish west coast and southern Norway) and
the adjacent dialects in the counties Mark and Kind in
Westrogothia.
The other dialect is the arcaic Dalekarlian dialect.
I wouldn't be surprised to find W in the adjacent Norwegian
dialects as well.

Some year before this TgPedersen (Torsten) mensioned the variants
timme and timma in Swedish.
Timma is not an innovation due to danophobia. It is the older
accusative form and timme is the nominative. Both forms have
survived and are used with the same frequency in the population.
(I myself suspect that I use both forms equally).
The plural is always timmar (and never timmor).

That is what I have to say for now but I have a lot of ideas to
to ask the forum when I have come through to 2005 which
will yet take some weeks. In the mean time I will be a lurker,
happy to be a member of cybalist and widen my horizons.
