The -ne& infix is present only, so can't be exactly parallel to ppp forms
like gi:ta. I do take your point, though, that the same apparent
lengthening might be observed elsewhere. However, in the 1st person plural,
I think analogy is more likely: We'd expect -na:mi, plural -nimas, but the
pattern in thematic verbs is -a:mi, -a:mas. It's not impossible that
the -i-in the plural of -ne& verbs was lengthened because of this pattern.
But I admit analogy is harder to see in other present forms.
