So far I remember Jens, regarding Illyrian linguistic evidence this is as
poor as the Thracian one. Apparently good enough for some shcolars to
already put them in two groups , centum and catem . What is interesting to
me is the paralel comparation made by Pogirc regarding the toponyms in the
illirian and dacian (not thracian) space:
Dacian - Illyrian
Alutas - Alto
Apus(Appion) - Apilas, Aponus
Arine - Arion
Artanes - Artatus
Drencon - Drinus
Iatrus(Ieterus) - Iadrus (in Dalmatia)
Naracion - Naron
Pannysis - Paniasos
Timachus - Timavus
(Pa)Tisia - Tit(i)us
These paralels appears interesant since, if they are true, then one can
speak here about dialectal variation of one and the same name. If they are
"native" Illyrian and Dacian, then it is imposible to have two very
appropiate languages ( based on these toponyms) but one of them should be
centum and one of them should be catem. The another posibility should be the
toponyms in one region have been "brought" by imigrants from another region.
If from Illyria in Dacia or from Dacia in Illyria, one has to see..
