Albanian <ah> `beech' is also derived from *osk- (*o > Alb. /a/ and
*sk > h), as well as <ashtë> 'beech wood' from *osk-staH2 (or, as
per Beekes, -steH2). But, much interesting is the syntagm <njomëz e
ahut> 'descendant of beech - very important offspring', that gives
to beech some sacral meaning. Probably it was a sacred tree of any
god. So, I guess the true meaning of Oscella Lepentiorum could
be 'the offspring of Leponts'
