Morphophoneme - a phonetic symbol between two pairs of slashes. I
just see the five characters / / e / / when I read the message from
the web. Your browser or e-mail program has decided that it meant a
file on your computer and inserted 'file:'. It's worse than the off-
Yahoo schwa symbol (@) being taken as an e-mail marker and therefore
cueing mangling.
