There might be a cognate in Czech chovat, Polish chowac', Russ. dial.
chova't' "protect, hide" PS *chovati perhaps < *skovati with an original
meaning of "watch carefully". Then, G schauen, E show, L cave:re, Gr. koéo:
< IE *(s)keu-
What do you think?

Maybe helps Rom. here:
- the word "zgâi" can be just from an older *skeny/*ska:ny ( "e"
or "a" for explaining "â") where the "-a:ny" is a suffix
the form with "a:" will help for Alb. "o" as well thus I will think
the *ska:ny should be the protoform. If this one can be traced back
to *(s)keuh1- , that should be the question to answer I will say:-)
