I'm way out of my league here, and I'll probably get bashed, but
anyway:

It seems to that in the cases where words in English and Danish have
changed stress they do so by moving to a once secondarily stressed
syllable, skipping a syllable, eg

superlatíve -> supérlative

and all the other -íves that wanted to avoid sounding too alike?
