I can give just the info about the meaning of Latin "germanus"
germanus= brother/sister, descendent from the same parents. The word
should have mean "akin" too.
The name should not be connected to the meaning "the originals". The
word should be Celtic.
an IE "g" before "er" should not have given in Latin "g".
