This is the usual explanation. The Mauro was supposed to be from the
language of the Iranians.
But if Mauro from Maurovalle should mean something "north" it doesnt
matches with the time when the word is given by Procopius. There is VI
centuries as the slavs just entered the area, they still did not have
the time of making dwellings which should be so known, and it will imply
these Iranians should have been south of Dacia for accepting "Mauro" as
"North". And in fact this "vale" is the word needed for the slavs to get
an "valah".
