I have not dismissed "all that offhand". I have only critiqued what was quoted to me, and the manner of exposition I observed. Ladefoged undoubtedly has written many things which are more interesting and less inaccurate.

But I do confess to a dislike for the practive of taking older, perfectly adequate definitions and redefining them.
