I am afraid that Albanian cognat of the Latin word
bruscus, German frosch, rumanian brosc- must be
breshka "turtle", which in Albanian mythology has also
the meaning "nurse" (comp. portuguese bruxa "witch"),
according to evoluation of long vowel o to e and
regular evaluation of /-sk-/ > /-shk-/ (comp. Lat.
scalae > Alb. shkalla, Lat. scamnum > Alb. shkmb,
etc.)
