Because of analogy. Being a verb originally (Lat. férvere "to boil"),
the accent falls on the first syllable in almost the whole paradigm.
Compare the verb a piérde "to lose" (pres. piérd, piérzi, piérde,
piérdem, piérdet,i, piérd; subj. sã piárdã; imper. piérde!; inf. a
piérde). The remaining forms with stress on the desinence (past ptc.
pierdút, pres. ptc. pierzînd) instead of developing into expected
*pãrd-út, *pãrz-î'nd, have taken over the stem as it is in all the
other forms, pierd-/pierz-.

The palatalization is analogical after the 2nd. person. -o > -u >
zero is regular.
