This name is likeliest saras-vati_ = "having pools", because it had
much water and could keep many lakes and marshes supplied with water
(until men drained them to make fields). -vat- is zero-grade of -vant-
= "having". Sanskrit -i_ is usually a feminine suffix and came from
PIE -yeH2 which in Greek etc appears as -ia.
