An interesting (if confusing) discussion by Antonio, Ed, et al.
on Etruscans, Pelasgians, Sardinians, "pyrgoi", "turres", and
nuraghi.
On the latter, my Eleventh Edition Britannica says "the word is
said to be a corruption of 'muraglie', i. e. 'large walls', but is
more probably a native word". Is there anything more in the
ninety years since? Or do have ideas of your own? The chance
of the builders' word surviving as long as their stonework is
small but I suppose not impossible.
