Dekaíneos, Dicineus, Dacian prophet under Burebista
...
cf the Umbrian name Dekénnios (Phlegon of Tralles, FGrH 257 F 37,
21), the late Christian name Dekénios (IG 14, 527 from Sicily) and
the latin name Decennius (CIL 8, 9014 from Mauretania Caesarensis),
which seem to be very closely connected [im engstem Zusammenhang ...
zu stehen scheinen] with the Etruscan tequnas, teccuni, Schulze ZGLE
271. About Dek- see the following name [Dekébalos etc, Dek- is
related to Latin decet "it behooves", decus "decoration" with
depalatlisation of the guttural].
Can you claim depalatalisation just like that? Thracian is a satem
language.
Anyway, the Etruscan connection, in a religious context, that far
east of Lemnos, intrigues me. Is this some Indo-Tyrrhenian relic,
preserved for religios purposes, as Etruscan in Rome?
Some more gems from from Detschew:
"
Dinogéteia, Diniguttia, Dinigothia, Denegothia, Denecutia, Denegotia,
Dinogesia
Place name in the vicinity of Garvan in Dobrudz^a
Díno-, Dini- from the names Dinus, Dinis. On the equation -gétia =
-gothia cf Jord. Get. 40 and 58 where Getae and Goths are confused
because of the phonetic similarity.
"
Hm. Wouldn't it be nice with a *Dana-gothia-? As for the
names "Dines, Dinens, Dina, Dinis, Dinus, Dinos, Dinnus, Deinis"
(Detschew) there are several king Dan's in Saxo?
