An afterthought:
The form on the left is problematic, because it would lead to **wódor
(with -o- maintained in immediately posttonic position), and attested
*wódr has to be smuggled in through analogy with oblique *wédn-, which
is not totally convincing. Perhaps there was a rule against two
consecutive long vowels, so that **wá:da:n becomes **wá:dan > *wódr.
That would also explain a form like coll. *dk^ómt(h2), not
**dk^ómot(h2) (< **dak^á:ma(:)t).
