The seemingly irregular plural ending <-ir> is historically
collective -- as often in group names, e.g. <Danir> or <Húnir> (var.
of <Húnar>). <Van-> is otherwise an ordinary a-stem (*wana-,
apparently from *won(h1)-o-).
