Yes, it suits nice formally, and *xwi- demonstrates the same nil-grade as *pnkW- does. Unfortunately, I don't know anything about the -st-i- semantics as well, though  collectiveness can be supported typologically: at any rate, -ah2 is collective itself, cf. also Russ. z^ens^c^ina 'woman' < *z^ena 'id.' + a collective suffix -*Ist-j- + an abstract feature's suffix -*in-. This *-Ist-j- resembles me -*st-i-.
