I read somewhere that there is a regular relationship between Latin
catus "one-eyed?" and Cato:(n)-, and that the transformation from -o-
stem to -n- is a "familiarizing" one; further, that Latin -n- stems
correspond to the German weak declension (also the mark
of "definiteness") and that German has a parallel example in
Franzens "Franz's" (cf "der Hans" etc). Sorry for the sloppiness.
Hope someone can make some semblance of order of this.
