He kills = he does murder/slaughter = he is a murderer/works in an
abbatoir. "Kill" is also intransitive.

I shoulda used another verb.

'Kill' is never intransitive.
 
One might think of 'die' as the equivalent intransitive; then 'kill' might be 'cause someone/something to die'.
