Hello all. First, I am not a linguist as many on this list are, but I am a
student of Indo-European studies as well as a professional, military
interpretor. That said, can someone direct me to a good resource whi deals
with the evoloution, if you will, of the I-E funeral customs of inhumation,
creamation, and exposure? It seems that in the ancient days, burial was the
thing, yet the Indians moved to a creamative means (save 'pure' holy men)
while Zarathushtrians delt only with exposure. The Germanic and Cletic
tribes, often said to have the closest linguistical ties to P-I-E structure,
delt with burials (save accounts of cremation in the Eddas and Sagas)
mostly. I digress though, so please, any information on the means and usage
of funeral rites would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance!
