A minor detail: all land north of the Elbe and Elster was Danish
approx 1201-1221 under Valdemar the Victorous. Most "historical maps"
skip this.
The raison d'etre of Denmark was to control the entrance to the
Baltic. Therefore Danish kings squandered their resources in an
attempt to force the Germans and the Hanse back.
