Is there anyone here that can shed light on to the root and meaning
of the word Ingui (other that associations with the Angles [Angli]
and the Norse deity Freyr). It appears as a common prefix in
Scandinavian and some Anglo-Saxon names.
Could there be a linguistic connection between Gael Oingus-Oenghus-
Oengus-Angus and Ingui? Could the root word for Ingui be cognate with
the Scots _ingle_ 'fire', 'fire on a hearth' which is probably (but
not certainly) derived from the Gaelic _aingeal_ 'fire?'
Finally, having difficulties determining the meaning of the Oingus-
Oenghus-Oengus-Angus name as well. Could it also be derived from
aingeal? I've been informed that Angus means both Chosen One and
from the OIr. gus, meaning the Forceful One. Please help!
Thanking whomever responses in advance
