Re: The Birds

This made me interested. I remember hearing about these birds in a Vladimir Vysotsky song years ago. Are these birds part of some Russian fairy tale or folk mythology?

Dear list members,

could anyone explain or refer to some source regarding
the etymology of the names Alkonost, Gamayun, Finist,
Sirin, Grifon, Mogol and Stratim (I am not sure about
their English spelling)? Are these birds parts of some
symbolical system?
