John Croft remarked:
<It is interesting that despite the fact that
the later Greeks saw the Titans as the fallen Gods of the autochthonous
Pelasgians, not a single name of a Titan appears in the Linear B
divinities. (The war between rival families of the Gods may be an old IE
myth projected upon subject peoples in different localities) >
Hesiodic 12 Titans: OKEANOS/TETHYS - HYPERION/THEIA
- KRONOS/RHEA - IAPETOS - THEMIS - MNEMOSYNE - KREIOS -
KOIOS/PHOIBE
(Aeschylus called Prometheus son of Themis (a
couple Iapetos & Themis?)
Non-Hesiodic 14 Titans (cited by Robert Graves):
HYPERION/THEIA (Sun) - ATLAS/PHOIBE (Moon) - KREIOS/DIONE (Mars) - KOIOS/METIS
(Mercury) - EURYMEDON/THEMIS (Jupiter) - OKEANOS/TETHYS (Venus) - KRONOS/RHEA
(Saturn) - Children of OPHION and EURYNOME
I'm looking for a pattern...
Why Hesiodic Titans were couples, but
Iapetos, Themis, Kreios and Mnemoosyne no?
Why Kreios's wife came from Pontos lineage? Why
Iapetos's wife was an Oceanid?
Why Themis and Mnemosyne was taken by
Zeus?
What are the etymologies of Titans' names? ( I
found an interesting clue (coincidence?) - Yoruba (Western Africa) have TITAN
"shining" (Titan?), GIGAN "guilt, sin" (Gigantes?), IRIN "moisture" (Iris?),
couple of gods ORUN & AYE (Ouranos & Gaia? An & Ki?)
