They have; it's been a major effort. Uniscribe, while being Windows-only,
has been an ongoing project. Although Win-125x might be considered a
diversion, as I see it, Microsoft has worked hard to make its software
usable worldwide. I just learned here this afternoon about the current
ability of Uniscribe to handle Indic scripts (thank you!). (Uniscribe
provides the "smarts" for complex scripts, and most users don't need to
know about it.)

I have found the Microsoft typography pages to be quite interesting,
informative, and well-written, for the most part. Perhaps more true of
earlier pages, they don't have annoying promotional material embedded into
them nor much of that surrounding them.
