I think it's good to be careful of security re XP; see what neutral
observers (if there are any) say. SP2 doesn't block any malicious
outgoing traffic, afaik.
I like Bruce Schneier for security matters (inmore than just computers
too).
Linux is famed (among Linux advocates and users) for rescuing trashed
Windows systems.
