That's because you didn't come to my Chicago talk at the Gene Gragg
retirement symposium! Egyptian proto-scribes received a very limited
explanation of what Sumerian scribes were doing, and came up with their
own adaptation. Just like the Greek proto-scribes wrt Phoenician.
