...gee, I've only been posting here for 3+ years now. its utf-8 in
the ethiopic range. I've updated my yahoo profile for ascii-land
compatibility (this mail is a test).

When I post thru yahoo's web interface there is a menu option for
"What language is this post in?" with 20 or so languages. But no
hint as to what encoding gets applied.

A feature request we could make of yahoo is to auto-transliterate
utf-8 text (maybe highlight it to indicate the textual change) when
the user's (or recipient's) view type is something other than.
