While browsing in the St Brides Printing Library (London, UK) I once came
across an article about a Nastaliq digital font (by Monotype IIRC). They
seem to have used the technique of producing individual glyphs for thousands
of words, based on the work of some expert calligraphers. Must have a very
large ligature table!
