When learning Chinese, there were two directions of writing:

RtoL using columns of width 1, (i.e., start at the top right hand corner of
the page and write downwards. Once finished, go back to the top of the
page and repeat).

or,

LtoR as in English using horizontal lines of text.

The Chinese text intro to my Chinese-English dictionary is written left to
right, as in English.

Although, sometimes I look at texts/headings and am not sure which way it's
written, lol.

A side note on punctuation etc. - periods are used, but are usually
depicted as small circles. Commas are also used. Numbers are still
written using Chinese characters, but most characters are now written in a
simplified form using fewer strokes. The dictionary usually provides the
simplified form first, with the more complex form in parentheses afterwards.
