Thanks to all those (including Nicky h..self) who already explained that "qalam" is the Arabic for "pen".

Actually, when I started this mailing list, I wanted to call it "sesh" ("ss^": the Egyptian for "writing") but, alas, that name was already taken on Yahoogroups.

Now the name has been freed, but I am not sure I wish to take the burden of changing the group's address just to match it with my nickname.

(BTW, "Seshat", from the same root as "sesh", is the name of the Egyptian goddess of writing and mathematics. But, please, don't be impressed by my divinity, I am an unassuming goddess. :-)
