I wish that the "Happy Birthday Bilbo" sign in the first film had
been written in Tengwar, not in pseudo-Celtic Roman. I wish that the
pages of Bilbo's book had been written in Tengwar, not in Latin
letters (I don't care if it was in English, but it should have been
in Tengwar. That would have been better in dubbings of the film.
Having said that, it was sweet of them to write all the Latin vowels
with the corresponding Tengwar vowel diacritics (so "a" was written
with three dots above, "-y" was written with diaeresis below, etc.).
They tried to give a flavour of the Tengwar. Somebody was thinking,
anyway.
For Christmas I got the extended version of the Fellowship film, and,
glory be to the Valar, at least we find out that they did in fact
film a scene with Elves singing the hymn to Elbereth.
