Thank you, Seshat, for handling this issue in a very "moderate" and
fair way.
If all character sets are deemed acceptable on Qalam, I would still
like to suggest that they be tagged appropriately, either in-band or
out-of-band. Otherwise it might be difficult to figure out what is
intended.
(I wonder which "other encoding" was supported by the one-person
minority....)

Good day.
For your information, here is the result of the poll about the Qalam's
character set.
As only 11 members out of 47 expressed their opinion, I would say that the
group is generally not very much worried by this issue,
Moreover, there is parity between members who opted for a "freedom of
encoding" and those who chose UTF-8. (There is also a one-person minority
who chose "another encoding").
So, it seems that the decision is bouncing back to the moderator... And this
is the moderator's decision:
On the Qalam home page, I will explicitly state that any character set is
accepted for posting on this mailing list.
I will also add that UTF-8 has been suggested as a very suitable character
set for this kind of mailing list.
I would like to support these statements with links to pages explaining how
to use UTF-8 or other character sets in e-mail. Suggestions are highly
appreciated!
Regards.
