Good day.

For your information, here is the result of the poll about the Qalam's
character set.

As only 11 members out of 47 expressed their opinion, I would say that the
group is generally not very much worried by this issue,

Moreover, there is parity between members who opted for a "freedom of
encoding" and those who chose UTF-8. (There is also a one-person minority
who chose "another encoding").

So, it seems that the decision is bouncing back to the moderator... And this
is the moderator's decision:

On the Qalam home page, I will explicitly state that any character set is
accepted for posting on this mailing list.

I will also add that UTF-8 has been suggested as a very suitable character
set for this kind of mailing list.

I would like to support these statements with links to pages explaining how
to use UTF-8 or other character sets in e-mail. Suggestions are highly
appreciated!

Regards.
Seshat (Qalam moderator)

Subject: Poll results for qalam

The following qalam poll is now closed. Here are the
final results:

POLL QUESTION: -- Halloween week poll (Oct 31 to Nov
6) --
Recently, some members suggested that
Qalam should have a rule specifying
which character set should be used for
posting.
I don't see why I should (and how I
could) enforce such a rule but,
nevertheless, I could use my mighty
moderator powers for *suggesting* a
character set on the web page and in
the welcome message.
Should I decide to do this, o member,
which character set doest thou suggest
Seshat to suggest?

CHOICES AND RESULTS
- Free (any charset accepted), 5 votes, 45.45%
- UTF-8 (ASCII-friendly Unicode), 5 votes, 45.45%
- Latin-1 (Western European set), 0 votes, 0.00%
- ASCII (United States set), 0 votes, 0.00%
- Another charset (none of the above), 1 votes, 9.09%
