FW: [palistudy] abhikkamosānaṃ

Dear Ven. Bhikkhu Bodhi and Dmytro,

I also agree that “abhikkamo esānaṇ” is the correct interpretation. Although CPD cites correctly the phrase under “abhikkama”, it gives an incorrect one under “osāna” in the following line:

ifc. abhikkam° (S III 120,12); paṭikkam° (S III 120,10);

With best wishes.

Jim

Dear Dmytro,

Yes, thank you. That is it. The solution was very simple all along.

With metta,

Dear Bhante,

In translating SN, I simply followed the sense: "... their increase, not their subsiding, is to be discerned." The Chinese translators of the Agamas translate in a similar way.

Taking in account the explanation:

paṭikkamosānanti paṭikkamo etāsaṃ.

from SN-a 3, 1. khandhasaṃyuttaṃ, 9. theravaggo, 5. vakkalisuttavaṇṇanā, para. 1

I wonder if the compound is paṭikkamo+esānaṃ

Mettena cittena,

                         Dmytro
