Dear Vojislav,

The PTS version is now available (mostly) on line at http://gretil.sub.uni-goettingen.de/ which Petra has been keeping us informed of.

It is always a good idea, when translating, or when having a difficulty, to look at all the different versions available (Burmese, Sinhalese, Thai, Cambodian) and especially for variant readings which may clarify some confusions. DPR uses the Burmese and has the Thai as an optional add-on which can be downloaded from the DPR site.

The Sinhalese edition is available here: http://www.bodhgayanews.net/pali.htm. Also the Sinhalese is often the copy-text (base text) in the PTS edition. I'm not sure if the Cambodian edition is available on line; I haven't been able to find it.

Best wishes,

Bryan

Thank you both very very much, you have explained everything.

I too am sure the translation captures the sense of it, but I am studying the language because I wish to know the exact meaning.

My quote comes from the DPR, so I gues it uses the burmese version. I really wish it used another version with less punctuation, because this just adds to the confusion, on top of a language which is itself very ambiguous.
