Yes, agreed, 

However, I have some comments on the councils. 
The First Council was just after the Mahaaparinibbaana.

The Second Council was about 100 years later to settle a dispute regarding very important Vinaya rules.
That they quarrelled is an indication to me that they have all, I stress all, veered away from the Dhamma of the Lord.
The Sangha split, say about three years later. These people are not "Bhagavato Saavakasangho". They may be called called monks.

The Third and Fourth Councils were sectarian affairs. 


 "Māgadhī or Magadhabhāsā"

We know nothing about this language. It is a name for the language,

"The Pāli that has come down to us is probably
not quite the same but it's about as close as we'll ever come to the"

I look at it this way: What has come down to us are the books of the Tipitaka. However, there is general consensus that Abhidhamma Pitaka is later than Lord Buddha. Certain books in the Sutta and Vinaya Pitaka are also later. Under the circumstances, to use the term Pali may not be appropriate, 

The language the Buddha spoke is given in the Sutta and Vinaya Pitaka. There are expressions their such as Bhagavaa etadavoca; satthaa; etadavoca etc. 

If we say Paali (not Pali): The words attributed to the Lord Buddha in the Sutta and Vinaya Pitakas.

is more informative than the PED one.

Is OD an abbreviation for Oxford Dictionary? MW defines samūhika as a
collective noun too, yet the examples jar, cloth given for this term in Sadd
(see below) don't look like the collective nouns one finds in English.

Tatra ghaṭa paṭa icc ādi samūhikaṃ anekadabbasamudāyasambhūtanāmattā, . . .
Sadd III 879,31-880,1.

A jar or cloth could be considered collective or mass nouns on account of
their being composite and reducible and not paramattha objects.
