Could the last-mentioned one be a translation of an original
corresponding to the BHS version entitled
_Muulasarvaastuvaadavinayavastu_, ed. S. Bhagchi, 1970 ? I have Vol.
II only which is in the Devanagari script. Edgerton has something to
say on this topic in his introduction to his BHS grammar, pp. 1-2. He
disagrees with Buddhaghosa and Geiger. He also mentions a
Dharmaguptaka Vinaya text that comes close to the Pali but doesn't
give any precise reference.
If you ever find a BHS version of the Vin II 139 passage, could you
transcribe and post it to the list? That would be very interesting to
see.
