Dhammapadaṃ, 1. Yamakavaggo (The Pairs), Verse 20
appampi ce saṃhita bhāsamāno | dhammassa hoti anudhammacārī ||
rāgañca dosañca pahāya mohaṃ | sammappajāno suvimuttacitto ||
anupādiyāno idha vā huraṃ vā | sa bhāgavā sāmaññassa hoti || 20 ||
20. Although reciting a small number of scriptural texts,
if he acts righteously in accordance with the doctrine,
abandoning passion and hatred and delusion, knowing rightly,
with mind well released,
not grasping in this world or the next, he has a share in the
ascetic's life.
