Chapter III Passive Forms

2. "Tath'ev'ime catubba.n.naa pabbajitvaa tav'antike
Jahanti purima.m naama.m, 'Buddhaputtaa'ti ~naayare." [Apa.27]

YP: "Likewise these people of the four castes near you
leave the household life (and) abandon (their) former name(s),
(they) have been known (as) 'children of the Buddha'."

YP: ~naayati (passive of jaanaati) is called, is named. ~naayare [Parokkhaa Attanopada 3rd Person Plural]

3. "Ye keci ga.nino loke 'satthaaro'ti pavuccare
Paramparaagata.m dhamma.m desenti parisaaya te." [Ibid. 28]

YP: "Those who have large followings in the world have been called 'masters'
they preach to their followings the teaching handed down by tradition."

YP: keci (plural of koci) anyone, someone.
YP: pavuccati (passive of pavacati) is called, is said, is pronounced.

4. "Cittena niiyatii loko, cittena parikassati." [S.i,39]

YP: "The world is led by the mind, by the mind (it) is carried away."

YP: 'niiyatii' should be 'niiyati', unless for prosodic reasons.
YP: suspect 'parikassati' should be 'parikissati'.

5. "Aje.lakaa ca gaavo ca vividhaa yattha ha~n~nare,
Na ta.m sammaggataa ya~n~na.m upayanti mahesino." [S.i,76]

YP: "Where plenty of sheep and goats, and cows have been slaughtered,
that sacrificial rite, great sages, walking the right path, approach not."

6. "Aadittasmi.m agaarasmi.m yan niiharati bhaajana.m,
Ta.m tassa hoti atthaaya; no ca ya.m tattha .dayhati." [S.i,31]

YP: "The utensil in the house ablaze, which (he) takes out
that is for the benefit of him; and not which is burnt in the blaze."

7. "Asso va ji.n.no nibbhogo
Khaadanaa apaniiyati." [S.i,176]

YP: "Like the horse old and useless
Khaadanaa is led away."

YP: apaniiyati (passive of apaneti) is led away.

8. "Tassa mayha.m, bhante, catusu dvaaresu daana.m diiyittha... Atha kho ma.m itthaagaara.m upasankamitvaa etad avoca: 'Devassa kho daana.m diiyati, amhaaka.m daana.m na diiyatii'ti." [S.i,58]

YP: "To me, sir, (he) has given his alms at the four doors... And then approached the boudoir and said this to me: 'Alms is given to the deity indeed, alms is not given to us.'"

YP: diiyittha [Parokkhaa Attanopada 3rd Person Singular] see PED dadaati.

9. "Viha~n~nati kho aya.m So.nada.n.do braahma.no sakena cittena; yan nuunaaha.m So.nada.n.da.m braahma.na.m sake aacariyake tevijjake pa~nha.m puccheyyan'ti." [D.i,119]
