[Saddaniiti XXV: aakhyaatakappo : sutta 872, p. 812 (Smith's edn.)]

872. paccuppanne kaale vattamaanaa. kaaleti cettha kiriyaa adhippetaa.
bhagavaa saavatthiya.m viharati jetavane.

872. When an activity has arisen, (there is) the present tense
(termination). And here with respect to "kaale", activity (kiriyaa) is
meant. bhagavaa saavatthiya.m viharati jetavane (the Lord was staying
in the Jeta Grove near Saavatthii).

Notes:
1) "kaale" (activity): Aggava.msa is following the interpretation
of Mmd (Mukhamattadiipanii) ad Kacc 414: "kaalo naama kaaro. kaaro
naama kiriyaa." Mmd also explains that the root of kaalo is "kar"
(kara kara.ne) and that -l- is substituted for -r-. In Smith's edn.,
p. 812, "kaaloti" is the reading instead of "kaaleti" which is the
reading in the Thai BBF edn., p. 323 (Suttamaalaa). See also
Padaruupasiddhi 428.
2) The 12 present tense terminations can be found in Sd 865-7 at
the beginning of this chapter.
3) Kacc 414 gives "paa.taliputta.m gacchati" and "saavatthi.m
pavisati" for its examples.
