(c) "Aho! Mayaa udarahetu ayutta.m kata.m." [J.i,234]
YP: "Alas! By me, injustice (is) done on account of the stomach."
38. aho vata, expresses a wish or contempt
(a) "Aho vataa'ya.m braahma.no ma.ni.m upasa`nkamitvaa na ga.nheyya." [DhA.iv.206] I hope this Brahman will not take this jewel when he approaches!
(b) "Aho vat'are amhaaka.m pa.n.ditakaa." [D.i,107] Shame to our wiseacres!
39. aadu, or
"Devataa nu'si? Gandhabbo?
Aadu Sakko Purindado?" [DhA.i,32]
"Are you a deity or a musician god? or Sakka, the king of gods?"
40. aama, yes
"Aama, bhante; na sakkaa tattha vasitu.m." [DhA.i,294]
YP: "Yes, bhante; impossible to live there (it is) not."
41. aayati, aayati.m, future; in future
(a) "Tathaagatassa kho, Siiha, aayati.m gabbhaseyyaa pahii.naa." [V.M.236] Rebirth in future, Siiha, was exhausted by the Tathaagata.
(b) Aayatibhavo, future existence.
42. aarakaa, away from, from afar
(a) "Aarakaa te anuttaraaya vijjaacara.na-sampadaaya." [D.ii,99] They are away from the supreme wisdom and conduct.
(b) "Aarakaa parivajjeyya, guutha.t.thaana.m va paavuse." [Theg.v.1153] People would shun thee from afar as a cesspool in the rains.
43. aaraa, from afar; far from
(a) "Na haraami na bha~njaami
Aaraa si`nghaami vaarija.m." [S.i,204]
I do neither take away nor break the lotus; only I smell it from afar.
(b) "Aaraa so aasavakkhayaa." [Dhp.v.253] He is far away from the extinction of passions.
44. aavi, openly (in cpds. clear, manifest)
(a) "Maa'kaasi paapaka.m kamma.m
Avii vaa yadi vaa raho." [Thig.v.247]
YP: "Do not evil deed
Openly or secretly."
YP: yadi vaa = or.
(b) Aavibhaava, manifestation.
(c) Aavikaroti, makes clear.
45. Aavuso, my dear; brethren.
"Aavuso, ima.m temaasa.m katiihi iriyaapathehi viitinaamessatha?" [DhA.i,9] "Brethren, in how many postures will you spend these three months?"
46. i`ngha, look here! (a hortative particle)
"I`ngha passa, na.taputta, Uggasena, mahabbala,
Karohi ra`nga.m parisaaya, haasayassu mahaajana.m." [DhA.iv,62]
"Pray look, Uggasena, tumbler of mighty strength.
Perform for the crowd; make the people laugh." [B.L.iii,229]
47. iti, thus (in many places this is used to show that a sentence is closed)
"Iti kho, maa.nava, appaayuka-sa.mvattanikaa pa.tipadaa appaayukatta.m upaneti." [M.iii,206] Thus, O youth, the mode of practice conducive of short life makes one's life short.
48. ittha.m, thus (see the example for no. 30)
49. iva, like (in comparison)
"A~njanii va navaa cittaa puutikaayo ala`nkato." [Theg.v.773] The foul body is decked like a new and embossed collyrium-box.
