Dear Nina,

I use Cha.t.taa San.gaayana CD-ROM by Vipassana Research Institute, besides PTS Pali version of the Jaataka. The sentences that I sent to this group are taken from page 127, jaataka a.t.thakathaa-5 (CSCD).

In PTS Pali version, it's merely written as what you have translated for me; devaanam. antare manusaa manussaanam. antare devaa a.t.tham.su.
We're trying to translate as complete as we can here, that's why I post them in this group to make sure of our translation. Anyway, thanks.

Dear Yong Peng,
Thanks for your respond and suggestion for this group to help me in the relay-race manner. Unfortunately, it seems that only you and Nina have responded so far...

Dear all,
I was wondering if you guys had a collection of names of fruits or plants or animals that you ever found when discussing or studying the Tipi.taka? As you know, it's quite hard and take time to try finding the exact equivalent words for them in our respective languages..What we do here when facing that problem is try finding out the latin names then surf the web to find the equivalence, which of course takes time and plus it's not that efficient cause sometimes we end up with nothing.

what i'm trying to say is if you guys do have the list of names of fruits, vegetables, trees or plants or animals that u have in Pali and English or any other language, would you please share with me? It'd be a lot faster to find the equivalence in our respective languages when we more sources for that.. I'll give you examples of how list them when encountering them :

Pali Latin English Malay/Indonesian
aamalaka Phyllanthus emblica emblic myrobalan malaka
ko~nca Ardea cinerea (grey) heron burung pucung seriap
badarii Zizyphus jujuba jujube buah bidara cina
taala Borassus flabeldiformis fan palm pohon lontar

Metta,
Johan.
