Hello,

I just joined the Pali Yahoo group out of a new found interest in
Pali. My background is in the Chan (Zen) tradition. I originally
learned TM back in the '70's, which I practiced regularly for about
10 years when I moved to Taiwan to study Chinese with an interest in
applying for an Asian Studies program. I was first exposed to
Buddhism there and soon found myself without the practice of
Patanjali's Yoga Sutra's, which I put down to pickup Chan
meditation. I now live in Fort Wayne, Indiana which has the largest
Burmese population outside of Burma. There is virtually no Mahayana
tradition in Ft. Wayne, which has given me the opportunity to become
acquainted with the Theravada tradition for the first time. Since
Pali is chanted in the temples here, I would like to learn it. I've
always been interested in Sanskrit, but hearing Pali chanted is very
wonderful. Hope to learn this language through participation in this
group.

I learned from studying Chinese that it is very important to first
study proper pronunciation. I would like to acquire a CD geared
toward learning proper pronunciation. Can anyone recommend anything?

Regards,
