Dear Ven. Pandita, Hugo and friends,
Hugo, your suggestion is good. As the moderator, I am happy to
support this move, but perhaps Ven. Pandita like to draft the appeal,
and Hugo can do some coordination?
In addition, someone can start the ball rolling by writing what they
hope for in CSCD as an open source project either to this group, or
start a post in the bulletin board:

Bhante, India is currently an IT powerhouse, I like to think that VRI
would have already considered many of the ideas we conceived. Back in
1999, DVD was still a technology in the "pipeline" challenging the up-
market LD, the popular VCD, and the old-timer video tapes. But, now,
VRI may want to release CSCD 4 in DVD-ROM!
I have both CSCD 2 and CSCD 3, there is not much difference to me
since I am only familiar with the Roman script. ;-) However, it was
really a terrific and meritorious act of VRI for the PTS printed
edition or the BUDSIR CD-ROM would cost a fortune to own. The other
alternative, the SLTP lacks the functionalities of CSCD. In fact, as
a text document, there wasn't any built-in functionality at all.
The other suggestions you made are really good. We can put them all
up as a "wish-list" to VRI. Porting a program to other platforms can
be very challenging, as any programmer would tell you. I am not sure,
but VRI may be considering using platform-free stuff.
There are pros and cons making an existing project open-source.
Eventually, it is really up to VRI which path it wants to take.
That's all from me for now. Btw, does anyone own the copyright to the
Chattha Sangayana Tipitaka?
metta,
Yong Peng.

Maybe a letter sent to VRI from this Pali group signed but at least
some of the more "representative" members (e.g. those who contribute
more Pali translations or help). Maybe joined by people from other
places (E-Sangha, abbots from monasteries, etc.).
