In "The Path of Purification", the translation for part of ch.2, 91:
Eva.m sati yassatthaaya dhuta"nga.m seveyya, svevassaa attho na
sampajjeyya. Eva.m paribhu~njitu.m asakku.neyyataaya pa~nca haapetvaa
bhikkhuniina.m a.t.theva hontiiti veditabbaani.
reads:
This being so, the purpose of cultivating the ascetic practice would
scarcely be served. It is because they are reduced by five owing to this
inability to make use of certain of them that they are to be understood as
eight only for bhikkhunis.
Can someone explain yassatthaaya, seveyya and svevassaa a bit, please? I
think seveyya must be related to this sev (is that a root?):
Sevati [sev] to serve, associate with, resort to...; to practice,
embrace, make us of
Seva (f) (fr. sev) service, resorting to...
Sevin (adj) [fr. sev] serving, practising ... see vipakkha sevin
