Dear Charles, Rett, John and friends,

thanks for the interesting discussion. For the exercises in this
book, I would like to apply the simple rule set in Pali Primer.
However, when exceptions arise, we shall highlight them and include
some notes in the answer set.

The similar question has been raised in the A series
http://www.tipitaka.net/pali/palidd/paliload.php?page=a03 , and the
footnote refers to Warder Lesson 8. Warder gives the various
situations the instrumental case is used. I have inserted the similar
footnote in D series for reference:

Thanks, that's very helpful. Do you know if that advice is traced to
any of the traditional grammatical literature? Or is it a well-known
observation?
